Erie County, PA

As he did in more than 200 counties, Donald Trump won Erie County, Pennsylvania, in 2016 after Barack Obama had won it in both 2008 and 2012. Parts of the city of Erie are vacant manufacturing plants and empty warehouses, but there are also signs of rebirth. Thousands of refugees have settled in Erie in recent years, helping to counter the loss of young people leaving for better job prospects. Like in many Rust Belt counties, Erie County residents could turn on President Trump if he doesn’t deliver on his promises to renegotiate trade deals and bring jobs back from overseas.
